The silvery green hairy foliage and bright yellow flowers of Sideritis are particularly attractive. The plant can be grown in pots and is also an excellent choice for a rock garden. The taste of Sideritis syriaca is not easy to describe. It is earthy and slightly sweet, with floral, citrus, and mint notes. The species is very similar to Sideritis scardica. However, the plant grows a little lower and more compactly, and tolerates humid conditions better. During mild winters, the plant remains evergreen. It is cold-hardy to -10°C provided it has excellent drainage.
