Rosa glauca is one of the most beautiful species of roses. It is prized for its compact growth and remarkable foliage, which changes color through the growing season, from brown-red-purple to blue-gray. The "Mechliniae" variety is an offspring of Rosa glauca selected by Louis Lens for its particularly dark foliage and dark flowers. The species is almost thornless.
