It is a natural mutation of Rubus spectabilis ("Salmonberry") marketed under the names "Olympic Double" and "Flore Pleno". It was found in the 1970s on the Olympic Peninsula in Western Washington. This variety has large double flowers and produces red berries. To ensure good fruit production, ‘Olympic Double’ should be planted alongside the usual Rubus spectabilis.
