Chilean guava. This is a slow-growing shrub that produces exceptionally tasty red berries, whose flavor is reminiscent of Alpine strawberries with hints of vanilla. In the wild, the plant grows in partial shade in humid areas where rainfall is almost constant. The soil must be slightly acidic (pH of about 5.5 to 6.0) and always moist. Ugni is an ideal plant for growing in containers, but it can survive mild winters (max. -10°C) when planted in a sheltered location.
